"Good for chess, but not great for parents"
My kid genuinely enjoys the chess side of it, so in that sense I’m happy with the app. But at the same time, I’m kind of frustrated with the parental controls. They work, but they also feel limited, especially if you want to block chat or control who can contact your child. The settings aren’t exactly confusing, but they’re not very clear either, if that makes sense. Overall it’s fine and my kid likes using it, but I still expected a bit more for parents

"Games keep freezing and it’s super annoying"
I’ve been trying to let my kid play a few games on ChessKid, but it hasn’t not been frustrating. Sometimes the moves take forever to go through, and then the board just freezes or says we lost connection even though our internet is fine. There were a couple games my kid was actually winning, and then it just kicked them out like nothing happened. The matching also feels off, it’s either someone way stronger or way weaker, with not much in between. It’s not no big deal when it keeps happening, and my kid got annoyed enough to stop playing.

"I tried using the classroom setup, but…"
I tried using the classroom setup, but it kept glitching on me and got frustrating quickly. You expect it to just work, especially when you’re trying to get things ready, but it ended up feeling like more trouble than it was worth

"Good overall, but the lesson flow could be smoother"
chesskid has been good overall, and my kid genuinely enjoys using it. I was in a relaxed mood when we were going through the lessons together, so I noticed the pacing more than usual. Some parts felt really easy, and then suddenly the next lesson jumped into much harder stuff. It’s not a dealbreaker, but I do think the curriculum could be a bit smoother for beginners...

"Decent, but the value didn’t add up for us"
chesskid is fine overall, and I can see how it might work for some kids, but after watching how my kid used it for a bit, I noticed the same pattern: they’d log in, poke around for a short time, and lose interest quickly. For the price, I was expecting it to hold their attention more or feel more worth the monthly cost. It’s not a bad product, just didn’t feel like a good value for us.

"Kind of stuck between age groups"
It feels a little too kiddy in some parts, but then other parts are still confusing enough that younger kids might not really get it. It’s like it can’t decide who it’s actually meant for. I also got the feeling that when issues come up, nobody really takes ownership or explains things clearly, which makes the whole experience more frustrating than it needs to be.

"Never Felt Like the Rules Stayed the Same"
I just didn’t feel like this was a safe place for my kid. Every time I thought I understood what to expect, it felt like the goalposts moved again. That made it really hard to feel comfortable or trust the situation, especially when my child’s safety was involved.

"Couldn’t Get a Response"
The weird part is, I wasn’t even asking for anything complicated. I sent a few emails to customer support and just got ignored for days. It’s really frustrating when you’re trying to get a simple answer and nobody gets back to you.

"I wanted to like the puzzles…"
I wanted to like the puzzles on ChessKid, but i ran out of patience with them quickly. Some are way too easy, then out of nowhere they get ridiculously hard, and a few of the answers just don’t seem that helpful for a kid who’s still learning. It started feeling random instead of fun. My kid gave it a try for a few days and then just didn’t want to deal with them anymore

"Felt Messy and Carelessly Put Together"
My kid is brand new to this, they got confused quickly. The lessons seemed to jump around without much care, and the site kept pushing games before the basics were even explained properly. It just felt kind of carelessly handled, like nobody really thought through how a beginner would use it. After a couple of days, we both got frustrated and gave up

"App keeps freezing"
The mobile app has been really laggy for me. Games freeze right in the middle of a move, and then I end up losing time because of it. There’s something about it that just makes it frustrating to use.

"Matchmaking Feels Really Unfair"
I’ve been disappointed with the online matchmaking. My kid keeps getting matched with players who are way stronger, and the games often feel completely one-sided. Sometimes we wait a while just to get into a match, and then it’s over quickly because it wasn’t even close. Losing is fine, but it should at least feel fair, especially on a kids chess site. What’s also frustrating is that it’s not clear what we’re supposed to do next — adjust a setting, report it, keep playing until it improves? There’s just no obvious guidance, which makes the whole experience even more annoying

"Wording Was Misleading"
Canceling ended up taking longer than I expected, mostly because the wording made it seem like it would be way more straightforward than it actually was. I had to contact support to get it sorted out, but to be fair, they did help once I reached out

"Badges Were Fun at First"
The badges were kinda cool in the beginning, ngl, but they got old quick. After a while I just stopped caring about them tbh.

"Account setup was way too frustrating"
I tried setting up an account for my kid it was a mess right from the start. The sign-up form kept asking for the same stuff twice, and then it wouldn’t accept the password even though it matched all the rules. Super annoying. Then I got stuck on the parent email step. The confirmation link took forever to show up, and when I finally clicked it, the site still said the email wasn’t verified. Refreshing. Logging back in. Over and over. Probably five times. Maybe the actual chess part is great, but I never even made it that far. Account setup really shouldn’t be this hard.

"Interface was way more confusing than I expected"
I really wanted to like ChessKid, but the interface has been frustrating for us. The menus feel kind of hidden, some buttons aren’t super clear, and my kid keeps getting lost just trying to start a game. A few pages also load strangely, so it’s hard to tell where you even are sometimes. For something made for kids, I expected it to be a lot easier to navigate. Has anyone else had the same issue?

"Good idea, but the lessons gets boring"
I signed up for ChessKid mostly for the lessons, but they was a bit too basic and repetitive for us. A few of the videos were fine, but a lot of them didn’t really explain why certain moves mattered, which is what my kid needed. He got bored quickly and stopped wanting to use it. It’s not terrible or anything, I just don’t think it was worth it if you’re mainly looking for actual learning

"I really wanted to get into it…"
I really wanted to get into it, but it just wasn’t engaging enough for me. You know when something should grab your attention but somehow doesn’t? That’s how this felt. I kept waiting for it to get more interesting, but it never really hooked me.

"Too unreliable for us"
i mean, we really wanted to like the site, but it just hasn’t been reliable for us. Pages take forever to load, games freeze up, and my kid kept getting kicked out in the middle of matches. After it happened a bunch of times, we just gave up and stopped using it.

"Mods don’t catch everything"
The mods are okay, but they definitely miss stuff sometimes. I’ll see things that probably should’ve been handled and it just kind of sits there, so... yeah. Not the worst experience, but it can be frustrating when you expect someone to step in and they just.....
